The benefits of self-storage are endless. Whether you’re moving to a new city and don’t have enough space to store your belongings, need inventory space for your business, or need a place to store your things while you’re home for the summer from college, self-storage units are a great option.

If you’re new to self-storage or have some specific needs, chances are you have a few questions. Not to worry, we’re here to help answer some of the most frequently asked questions people have.

What are the Different Types of Self-Storage?

Your specific storage needs will dictate what kind of storage unit is best.

Traditional Self-Storage Units

Traditional self-storage units are the most common type of storage unit. Most often, these units are located inside a large storage facility. They usually don’t consist of much more than four walls, a floor, a ceiling, and a door.

Sizes for traditional storage units vary from just a few square feet, to spaces large enough to store RV’s and boats. If you’re looking for a no-frills space to store your belongings, a traditional unit might be your best choice. Just make sure you choose a unit that’s big enough.

Drive-Up Self-Storage Units

At Lucky Horseshoe Storage, we have plenty of drive-up storage units. These units allow you to drive your car or truck right up to the door and unload your belongings. Drive-up storage units are a great choice if you have bulky or heavy items that are difficult to maneuver.

Climate-Controlled Self Storage Units

Even though they’re a little more expensive, climate-controlled storage units can be the best solution to protecting your valuables that are vulnerable to harsh conditions and temperature swings.

Located indoors, the storage units are kept at precise temperatures and humidity is closely regulated.

A perfect choice for machinery like automobiles and items like important documents that can be damaged by heat, cold, and moisture.

What are the Different Sizes of Self-Storage Units?

Self-storage units can vary in size from as small as 5’x5’ all the way up 10’x20’ with many sizes in between.

When deciding what size storage unit is right for you, it’s a good idea to measure some of the larger items you’re going to store to see how much space they’ll take up.

It’s always best to err on the side of having too much space. By doing so, you can be sure you’ll even have some leftover space to store more items as you accumulate them.

What Other Amenities are Available in Self-Storage Units?

While you might think storage units are just a space to put things, they actually come with many other benefits.

More and more, people are using storage units as office space where they have access to Internet, electricity, and climate control. If you’re looking for office, retail, or industrial space (which is becoming limited in Central Oregon), we’ve partnered with several top-tier companies that have spaces to fit your individual needs.

Other amenities include flexible month-to-month payment and processing options, packing and moving supplies, access to your unit 365 days a year, state-of-the-art surveillance, and knowledgeable on-site managers that are happy to answer any questions you might have.

What Documentation Do You Need to Rent a Storage Unit?

All you need to rent a storage unit is a valid form of government-issued identification.

Can You Schedule a Tour Before You Sign a Lease?

Do You Have to Give Notice Before You End Your Lease?

What Happens if You Lose Your Keys to Your Lock?

If you misplace the keys to the lock on your storage unit, you’ll need to call a locksmith to come cut the lock for you. We don’t keep spare keys and we can’t cut the lock. Should you find yourself in this situation, please schedule a time during business hours when a locksmith can come out and one of managers can be present.

Are Your Items Insured?

As the renter, it’s your responsibility to purchase insurance for your belongings. If you have questions, we’re happy to advise on the best options.
